Hey - it's a scary thing having a 'cricket ball' sized lump in my guts. I've done loads of reading, and it would appear that I'm in pretty good company on that front. There are so many things that could be wrong.... ranging from cancer to irritable bowl issues. The symptoms seem to really mirror each other in these cases.
It's pretty stressful, the unknown and all the tests and scans they give out are mysterious and add to the stress. So I've decided to share my experience in my blog. I'm hoping that someone who is in the same boat as myself will find some comfort in it.
Last week I had a CT scan - it was all very civilised. It was one of those new things that looks like a big polo mint. It moves over the areas it wants to see and la-te-da, you're done. To have this scan, they make you drink a 'special' drink. It wasn't so bad - milky white and smelled a bit like peaches. I wouldn't say it tasted good... but it was tolerable. I've surely tasted worse!
When I got on the table, they hooked an IV looking thing to my arm so that they could inject some dye at the right time.
I gotta confess, this was a little stressy. It's the unknown. Well, as it turns out, it wasn't so bad. The dye made me a little warm for a couple of minutes and then it was all over.
The worst part now is waiting for the results. My doctor tells me that when we see this scan, we will pretty much know what sort of thing my 'cricket ball' is. I should know tomorrow or Friday. And when I do, I'll share.
A colonoscopy exam was scheduled for me before I had my CT - and that's going to happen on the 30th. I'm absolutely stressy over this. According to the doc... I get heavily sedated and they are shoving (gently inserting?) a long camera thing up my bum, far into my bowels. I know that I'm not the only one scared and put off by this process... So I'm hoping that talking about the experience before and after on here will help with relaxing the fears of others.
Anyway - this is my plan - to share. Ask me questions, offer comments, share anything at all really.
Here we go!
L xx
